Says Umut. In a world he is trying to hold onto, spinning around. Maybe the world is revolving around him, or maybe he is just within himself. But it is certain that something is not standing still. And something definitely needs to be shaken up.

Umut moves from Istanbul to Berlin with Ali; this means the end, beginning, or at least change of many things for him. But it doesn’t happen as he expected. He cannot quit drinking as he planned, and the world he built with Ali gradually falls apart. The feeling of disconnection that has made him feel like “someone who needs to be fixed” since his childhood grows stronger. The disconnection created by being with people who do not see the same thing he sees, who do not hear the same thing he hears..

Umut’s journey throughout the play transforms into a state that will stop the flow of the world around him, and moreover, change its direction. Umut tries to remember his own reality, not getting lost in this chaos; on the contrary, he is aware of this strangeness and the time has come to stop it. He realizes how the medications, therapies, and various attempts to hold onto the ‘moment’ handed to him since childhood are a trap. He is aware that he is seen as a mind that always needs to be healed, always needs to be fixed.

If we can take a step into uncertainty with Umut, perhaps what we will find there is a solitude we have deprived ourselves of. The world spinning around us, a series of lives we need to reach, institutions, people, and connections trying to normalize us.. And us standing in the middle of it all.
