The Bourgeois Gentleman

Moliere's The Bourgeois Gentleman follows Monsieur Jourdain, a prosperous but uncultured merchant who is determined to transform himself into a refined gentleman. He hires tutors in music, dance, philosophy, and fencing, all of whom are happy to take his money while mocking him behind his back. As his ambitions grow ever more ridiculous, the people around him scheme to exploit his vanity. A masterpiece of comic theater that remains as funny today as when it was first performed over three hundred years ago.
