"Black Fatma" Fatma Seher Erden was born in
Erzurum in 1888. Since her husband Ahmet Bey was an officer, she also lived the
life of a soldier. She participated in the Balkan War. Her husband Major Ahmet
Bey was martyred in Sarıkamış. Fatma Seher Erden travelled to Sivas during the
congress days in 1919 and met with Mustafa Kemal. Mustafa Kemal assigned Fatma
Seher Erden to the western front as Militia Detachment Commander and nicknamed
her "KARA" because he saw that she was a fierce Anatolian woman. Fatma
Seher Erden would now be known as "KARA FATMA".
KARA FATMA was the only female commander in the Turkish Army
during the War of Independence who had her own platoon and officially held the
rank of first lieutenant. She is also a veteran who was wounded many times at
the front, escaped even though she was captured, and destroyed her captors. Her
life was transferred to the stage based on documents. It is a theatre work in the genre of
BIOGRAPHY-HISTORY-DRAM.
